but i just want to thank everyone for their kind words today and all the yesterdays over the past two years of my issues. it was a long road getting to this point. as some of you are in sobriety, know someone in sobriety, or are having addiction issues of your own, you know that it means so much to me to have/have had all your well wishes and kind thoughts and words. i have a very very small circle of friends and a very small family (not all of whom care what happens to me). your support during my several rehab attempts, and your patience during my extremely drunken times/posts have made my journey that much easier and more meaningful. to have such a special group of people, whom i know only from online, is a blessing indeed. thank you and i wish the best of everything for each and everyone of you.

sorry to sound like a sappy, soft mushball, but.....

A very smart young lady once told me, "Don't worry about dire, he's really just a big mush."

Looks like she was right, huh?

If you're not a sap or even mushy from time to time then you are simply not alive and judgement should not be passed on those who are confident and unabashed in the sharing of true emotion.

Good for you on multiple levels. Good for you.

Congrats Dire!!

glad you found some respite here*S*

I too have fought my own demons and don't know it ever stops.

get rid of one and a new one needs tending if we are really trying to grow as humans.

Takem' one at a time and one moment at a time and "you will find ten years have passed behind you"

its been 15 years for me and I was blessed to have the cravings disappear.

keep up the good work bro!

thanks man - and a huge congrats on 15 years for you!!!! that is certainly an inspiration for me!! i will be truly blessed if i make it as far as you have in your journey (and I plan on that happening)

and you are right - all there is is the "now" and how live live, breathe, and feel it. problems will arise, but each "now" has its own joy, its own beauty, and its own challenge. it has been a most fulfilling year, most fulfilling!

Well old friend, I was just trying to locate your first response to me, and in the midst of that effort found an amusing selection of your posts, some of which defn qualify as virtual "hugs guys!" and "aw, shucks, you shouldn't have" and even "luv you, man!" but I will refrain from linking, reposting or even more paraphrasing as I end up being embarrassed as well...

I will say that it really, REALLY makes me miss Ashes!

Nonetheless, three long and hard years later, with a great deal of forum antics thrown in for amusement, it's a honor and a privlege to call you "old friend"...

And as one old friend to another (if I may claim that privilege) it's been grand knowing you too, Master Tell. I just realised that today is the third anniversary of my first post. Don't we get time off for good behaviour or something?

Ha--I am still waiting for the big check that the admins promised me when I took over the PM job...hmmm, now that I think of that, it was more likely just some megalomaniacal dream of mine--nightmare perhaps?

And old friend, I hope things are looking up, as I know there have been a few days of late when that was not the case, as with me as well. Damn, getting old, worrying about the kids, and all the rest...keeps us busy though, eh? Always a pleasure even if catching up only briefly and impersonally hereabouts.

Thank you, WT, I very much appreciate your sentiments. Been looking over the edge but I've been able to take a step or two back recently and I'm not feeling quite so hopeless or ready to take the drop. Maybe not out of the woods yet though, if I'm not mixing my metaphors too much (imagine woods bordered by a crumbling cliff edge and you have the picture), but hanging in there in my Caledonian fatalistic fashion. I definitely owe you an email but you'll have to get in line behind Dire...

Hey Dire, Congrats on this very joyful anniversary! Glad that you are doing well!

My grandma always said, there should always be a positive trajectory to life (she lectured in biophysics, hehe) and this milestone is so great for you!

(I haven't been coming here for that long to post, been lurking for longer, but I also love the sense of community here, as well as on rukind.org)

Well its been a bit of a soft and sappy morning what with hearing the news about Mary Travers on the radio and then logging on to read this. (I get choked up listening to Puff the Magic Dragon so that'll show you how sappy I am ...)

You were one of the first people to respond when I started sticking my newbie head round the door of this place and we've got along pretty well over the years since then. I can honestly say that I can't recall ever being angry with you or you with me, and I can't say that about many. So carry on being your silly, sappy self - it's just good to see you happy. You must have a mighty big chest to hold all that heart.

Congratulations on making it through the storms.

We've been through some things together
With trunks of memories still to come
We found things to do in stormy weather
Long may you run.
